A CEO blog is a blog written by a company's Chief Executive or, in some cases, a senior employee. CEO blogs offer a unique and personal perspective on company operations as well as providing an insight into the personalities that drive corporations.
Update: CEO blogs is now called Exec blogs to reflect the number of senior executives who are penning blogs in our directory.
Below are five examples of CEO blogs that we like. We're not rating these blogs – there are better and worse out there. This is simply a list of some we think are worth taking a look at. Keep an eye out for updates.
Bill Marriott – Marriott on the Move
http://www.blogs.marriott.com/
Marriott on the Move is the blog of Marriott International CEO Bill – you guessed it – Marriott. The blog has been going since January 2007 and is written in a very distinctive and personal style. It has a kind of down-home appeal that has proven very popular with customers (check out the overwhelmingly positive comments) and it has earned its position as one of the most well-regarded CEO blogs around.
Tom Glocer
http://tomglocer.com/
While Thomson Reuters CEO Tom Glocer claims to try to avoid talking about issues too close to his company's business on his blog there is an evident and inevitable overlap. Indeed, the blog is noticeable for a nice balance of personal and business posts and, like all the blogs on this list, makes it clear that the company is being run by a human being.
John Heald
http://johnhealdsblog.com/
John Heald is Senior Cruise Director at Carnival and the only blogger on the list who is not a CEO. He has earned his place, however. The blog is driven by Heald's infectious enthusiasm and ellipsis-heavy style and is so much fun it makes me want to break out the deck shoes and join him on a Med cruise right away.
Tim O'Reilly – O'Reilly Radar
http://radar.oreilly.com/tim/
Does this man sleep? Founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media, Tim O'Reilly is an innovator, author, commentator and a one-man Boing Boing. His wide range of interests is reflected in the breadth of his daily blog posts that cover technology, politics and everything else in between. Follow him on Twitter (@timoreilly) for an endless stream of interesting links on every topic imaginable.
Jonathan Schwarz – Jonathan's Blog
http://blogs.sun.com/jonathan/
Jonathan Schwarz is the CEO of Sun Microsystems and his blog is – or at least was – the daddy of CEO blogs. In May, however, Schwartz suddenly stopped blogging as Oracle began the process of taking over Sun. Jonathan's Blog retains it's place on the list due to reputation but with only one new post in the last five months it may be the end for the CEO blog that set the gold standard for others.
